Oh la la! English Crème Fraîche is quite simply cream with a friendly culture added to give it a slightly sharp flavour. Crème Fraîche originates from the French (they are very generous with words!), meaning ‘Fresh Cream’.

This superbly light cream is a great companion to almost any dish: eat with omelette for breakfast, fresh fruit for elevenses or as a healthy alternative to mayonnaise in your cheesy ‘slaw. We are not ashamed to admit Creme Fraiche is part of our everyday eating and Cook is never without a jar!

How to use: 

Excellent on pies,cake and pudding or stir into sauces and recipes for extra richness.

Easy, peasy lemon squeezy! This light dip is quick to whip up and tastes fresh and summery.Serves: Serves 4
Ready in: Prep: 15 minutes


1 jar 170g/6oz Crème fraîche
1 cucumber, peeled, grated and squeezed dry
½ fresh dill, chopped
¼ cup of lemon juice


1. Mix the Crème Fraîche, cucumber and dill together in a bowl until thoroughly combined
2. Stir in the lemon juice
3. Add seasonings to taste
4. Cover and refrigerate for 1-2 hours

Spoon into ramekins or serve a a dollop on grilled fish for a simple savoury supper
